Introducing OS Update and Upgrade Management for macOS

At Scalefusion, we understand the significance of a secure device management experience for IT admins tasked with managing an extensive device inventory. The use of macOS for enterprise and educational use has been surging, and so have the threats to security. To combat the impending challenges, we are excited to announce the much-awaited feature – OS Update and Upgrade Management for macOS.

Updates Vs Upgrades: What’s the difference?

Updates are simply bug fixes, security patches, and performance improvements. Upgrades, on the other hand, involve major changes to the operating system, such as new features, a fresh interface, or compatibility with the latest hardware and software.

    Need Analysis

Apple releases a new version of macOS annually and several minor updates throughout the year. The main challenge lies in ensuring the compatibility of Mac devices when it comes to large-scale software upgrades and updates. Failure to do so could result in increased downtime or, even worse, serious security breaches.

Scalefusion’s all-new OS Update and Upgrade Management for macOS revolutionizes the landscape of publishing and managing macOS Updates and Upgrades. With this feature, IT admins can choose to either directly push the updates and upgrades to the managed Mac devices or enable the end users to update the device as per their convenience with ‘Defer software updates’.

    Feature Overview

macOS Update and Upgrade Management allow IT admins to push the required updates remotely to Mac devices. Scalefusion also enables IT admins to defer the updates, giving them the ability to test the new updates and allow the users to see the updates after a specified delay. The deferred interval is up to 90 days.

IT admins can also filter the updates by major, minor, firmware, critical or security, and configuration. They can also choose the option to show the obsolete updates, which are the updates that have been superseded.

There are two types of update policies available with macOS:

    1. IT admins have control to choose the updates: The updates are shown to the IT admins in the dashboard, and they have the control to push the updates whenever required.

    2. Users have the option to install: The updates are made available to the users in the self-service portal, and they can choose to install the updates when required. The deferring limits are set for the end-user post, which the users can’t defer the updates.

Benefits of Update and Upgrade Management for macOS:

Scalefusion’s Update and Upgrade Management for macOS offers a host of benefits to organizations such as:

    • Centralized and remote control over all the updates and upgrades
    • Enhanced security of the entire device fleet
    • Real-time of the update status
    • Minimum manual intervention for IT admins to manage updates and upgrades

    Wrapping Up

Scalefusion offers macOS Update and Upgrade Management to ensure that the Mac devices are always up-to-date and protected against security threats. Rejoice if you’re already using Scalefusion; if you aren’t, now is the time to get started.

We would like all our Mac users to try this new feature and give us your invaluable feedback.

We thank all our customers and partners for their outstanding support. Scalefusion will keep raising the bar with more such features in the future in our zeal to make mobile device management more effortless and secure.
