We are beyond excited to announce that Scalefusion MDM now supports unattended remote control for Windows devices. Using this feature, enterprise IT teams with a distributed device unmanned inventory can now troubleshoot device errors remotely.
Unattended Remote Access: Scope and Needs
Several businesses across the globe deploy thousands of devices for on-floor tasks. This includes large shopping centers, hardware stores spread across acres of area, wholesale stores and warehouses. These businesses need devices mounted on the floor for customers to access device inventory information, self-billing and checkout. The devices essentially replace the need of having a customer representative employee and help in faster checkouts and increased customer satisfaction.
If and when such devices run into an error, it is severely underreported and even if it is detected and reported via an MDM, troubleshooting the errors becomes an expensive endeavor, not to mention the hours of operation lost and the number of customers unserved.
It is hence essential to have a process in place to take control of these devices remotely, which is now made possible by Unattended Remote Cast and Control via Scalefusion Windows MDM.
This feature enables the active device screen to be shared between the device user and the IT admins without any physical intervention on the device end. IT teams can then assess the issue, take corrective actions and create context-aware support tickets on the integrated ITSM platform for further escalation.
How is it different from the usual Remote Cast and Control?
In the Scalefusion Remote Cast and Control session, the end-user on the device side needs to accept the initiation of the Remote Cast session, for the IT admin to troubleshoot the device. With unattended Remote Cast and Control, this need is completely eliminated for Windows devices.
How does it work?
- IT admins can push and install the Remote Support app available on Scalefusion Dashboard on the device.
- Remote Cast sessions can be initiated from the dashboard.
- Once started, IT admins can take the control of the device.
This feature enables IT teams to take the following actions remotely without any end-user intervention.
- Initiate an unattended Remote Cast session
- Take control of the login screen
- Switch users while the session is in progress
- Respond to UAC prompts on secure desktops
- Lock/unlock screen
- Take control of the device’s keyboard and mouse
For some specific use cases, automatically recording the troubleshooting session is necessary, as a checkpoint for the agent taking the session to make sure that everything is as per protocol. In such cases, IT admins can configure and enable the auto-record settings from the dashboard. All other features available for Remote Troubleshooting are extended for Unattended Remote Cast and Control, including taking a screenshot, manually recording the session and taking device-level actions such as refresh and reboot.
