We are excited to announce the launch of Scalefusion Android MDM SDK. Android MDM SDK is a completely secure and powerful suite of APIs introduced to simplify the application development in enterprise environments while ensuring that the end-user experience is top-notch.

Using the Scalefusion Android MDM SDK empowers app developers to minimize the code changes while handling enterprise use-cases while providing a first-class user experience on Android devices managed using Scalefusion.

    What is an SDK?

SDK or a software development toolkit is a set of customized software tools and pre-written programs that are provided by hardware or software vendors. This kit can be used and implemented to build applications on specific platforms. SDKs are essentially designed to help app developers and help in achieving a seamless integration of their apps with the services offered by the software for which the SDKs are created.

The era of hyper-customization and the need for Android MDM SDK

Mobility has been incrementally pivotal in transforming the way the world does business. Mobile devices have penetrated deeply across businesses belonging to diverse sectors, making it a truly democratic element to work. When mobile devices are no longer restricted to the ‘knowledge workers’ or the ‘tech-savvy’ bunch of employees, making amendments to device operations and management is crucial to make it employee-friendly. This can in turn ensure that the devices are used to add to the productivity of the workforce.

Moreover, the dynamic nature of business needs has reiterated the ‘to each their own’ philosophy of procuring, onboarding or managing the devices. And hence, the ‘one size fits all’ approach is not foolproof. No wonder why, the time we live in is called the ‘era of hyper customization. This, in itself, has driven the need for enterprise applications to have more control over their operations and additional management capabilities.

As Android OS expands its security enhancements to make it more user-privacy-centric, certain APIs and device information have been deprecated and made available only for the MDM apps such as Scalefusion.

    These include:

    • Prevention of reading hardware IDs like IMEI and/or Serial numbers
    • Configuring WiFi networks and other network parameters

As the Android Enterprise continues to evolve, enterprise-specific developments are initiated to extend additional capabilities for third-party enterprise applications, such as:

    • Lock Task Mode: Using this capability, an application can lock itself to single app mode on demand
    • App Delegations: Using this capability, certain functionalities like certificate management and app installation can be delegated to a third-party enterprise app via the MDM.

However, the options provided by Android Enterprise to empower the enterprise apps with additional management capabilities are still limited. The app industry has been witnessing more and more Enterprise apps being re-written and developers having to workaround certain business-critical functionalities due to the lack of support from the Android OS.

To eliminate the rework and code changes for the app developers, while ensuring that the app performance is consistent with the enterprise requirements, Android MDM SDK plays a key role.

What is Scalefusion Android MDM SDK?

Scalefusion Android MDM SDK gives organizations and app developers the power to leverage data points that are not exposed to them. Of course, making it completely secure and full-proof is the top priority for us at Scalefusion, which is why only apps authorized by Scalefusion get access to the Android MDM SDK.

Use-cases where enterprise apps may require Scalefusion Android MDM SDK:

    • Providing conditional access to the end-users to log in to the apps on devices managed by Scalefusion
    • Launching activities from the background
    • Device reboot or power off
    • Application management functionality like controlling application upgrades, clearing app data or reinstalling the application.

We are doubly excited about this release since the Android MDM SDK by Scalefusion can also be leveraged to support interesting use-cases that enable technology accessibility. This includes:

    • Improved and intuitive app UI on managed devices:
Providing an intuitive interface to allow elderly people to power off or reboot the device.
    • Reduced downtime
Developing a complete diagnosis and remediation app that is deployed on the managed devices to not only troubleshoot but take corrective actions on the fly.
    • Preventing unwanted settings
Allowing frontline workers and/or students to control network configuration from within their application, thereby not having to worry about accidental changes to unwanted settings.

IT admins and enterprise app developers can leverage the Android MDM SDK to help their Android apps thrive. You can request a free evaluation of this feature by getting in touch with your account manager or writing to [email protected]
